Short summary of professional life

Worked as tutor in Tamil, government arts college, krishnagiri (1974-75) and then after got PHD Worked as senior research fellow in the department of Tamil language, University of Madras for 2 years (1980-82) then joined in Tamil university (20.10.1982) as folklore professor and promoted in various roles such as, head of folklore department, director of publications, director of distance education and dean of language faculty and retired in 30.06.2011 Then UGC selected him as Emeritus professor and he worked as Emeritus professor in Pondicherry university and Tamil university. He is recognized and praised by international scholars like Dr.Alan Dundes (Former professor of Folkore and anthropology, California university), Stuart Blackburn (London university), Dr.Alf Hiltabeital (Professor of religion, USA), Dr.A.K.Ramanujam (Professor, chicago university)

Books written by him

He wrote and edited more than 45 books. In those 45 books, 2 books were collection of short stories. He was the cheif editor of 10 volumes of collection of folk songs, five eminent folklorist of tamilnadu worked with him in this project. Along with this he was a cheif editor of 15 volumes of collection of folk tales of tamilnadu. He edited and published folk tales of south india - tamilnadu in english. He edited and published folk ballads too. He wrote a book called varalatrru nilaviyal aaivu murai - aruimugamum aaivugalum (historical geographical method - an introduction and researches), some of his important books like tamilzhar kalai illakkiya marabugal, tamilzhar vazhibattu marabugal, naatupura kalaigal - nigalthu kalaigal (folk performing arts of tamilnadu), aanirai kavardhal + aanirai meetal + yeru thazhuvudhal = maatu pongal, kaarthigal thiruvizha tamizhar thol thiruvizha also published by him.
